The lovely moment pictured above would have never been a reality had a certain thing not gone wrong. You see, the plan for that night was to go enjoy a glow in the dark dance show called "Illuminate". It was at an outdoor theater. There is seating right in front of the stage under a canopy, but people are invited to bring blankets and lawn chairs to see the show from the small hill just behind the chairs in front of the stage. It might sound a little confusing, but overall it's a nice experience.
The show was completely free, we only ended up paying for parking. When we arrived to the show, every seat you could sit, every place you could have stood, and every square inch of the hill was filled with a human. There was no place for us to watch the show. While disappointed at first, we decided to have a little picnic at a park behind the theater.
We could hear the music and the people clapping from the show, but we ended up just enjoying each other's company, laughing, taking selfie's, and playing with the little ones. At some point of course someone saw us struggling to get everyone in a selfie and offered to take it for us- that is the picture you see above. At the end of the night though, we all left probably more satisfied than we would have been had we watched the show solely because we spent time enjoying each other. We made the most out of an unexpected situation.
It's no secret that tough times can either make you or they can break you. There are times in life not everything goes our way and we end up being forced to take a route that isn't so favorable. The truth is, what makes those undesirable circumstances (kind of like the undesirable circumstance we are dealing with in the result of our election) SO grudgingly undesirable is our inability to adapt to our circumstances.
So what we can't control everything and everyone. What we can control is our response. How we respond is what defines our character. In having a positive outlook, and not harboring anger towards a situation you can't change, you leave room to be not just happy, but creative! There's so much freedom in that.
Life is filled with as many bad situations as good situations, but life is also short. The only way to live it to it's fullest is to make the most out of every moment, good or bad.
