How to Recover from (& Back Out of) a Bad Brand Collaboration

I wanted to bang my head on my laptop keyboard over and over and over again until the situation could be erased from my (& hopefully all of my blogs followers) memory. I really messed up. Being the kind of person who constantly struggles between being all too compassionate and not compassionate enough, this time I was definitely entertaining thoughts that favored the latter attitude.

I had to pull myself together.

"Okay, chill. It happens... heck, it happened. How can I transform this negative, bashful, and regret-filled mindset into something more positive.."  I thought.
Often, all it takes is that single progressive thought to propel you into positive action and wipe out the grey cloud above you. And so it did with me.

With that being said, let me encourage you to extend yourself the same kind of compassion in this very moment. Especially before you read on...

Breathe with me... in... and out.... in.... and out... it happened. Here we are now.

Maybe you weren't as thorough as you should have been with this particular brand and they promote or condone things you cannot promote. That's okay! Remember this feeling because you will never want to feel this way again. You have unintentionally given yourself a steroids worth of determination to be as thorough as possible in your dealings with brands.

What do you do now?

Delete the Content with said Brand

Without thinking of the number of people who have already seen the collab piece, delete that stuff. People who visit your page whether new or returning need not see your name and that brands name in the same paragraph.

Email the Brand

If you haven't necessarily completed the collab, email the brand and kindly let them know you value the trust of your readers and won't be able to go through with the collaboration. Wish them the best, thank them for considering you, and don't look back.

Inform Your Followers

If you've been parading around, praising this brand in front of your followers for a while, you owe it to them to be honest and pardon your cheerful unawareness. You don't have to bash the brand. You could simply talk about how the specific product ended up not being a good fit for you. Or, you could explain what it was that turned you off of the brand. Either way, both can be done without making other brands scared to work with you.

Create a Collab Checklist

If you weren't as thorough as you should've been, now you know what you need to be on the lookout for in your next collaboration. Create a checklist of all the requirements that your collaborations should (and/or shouldn't) have. Next time, you can refer to this checklist and avoid future mishaps!

Lastly, but not leastly, Think Kindly

We are human. It's in our DNA to make mistakes. Rather than think of all the ways you screwed up, put your energy into propelling forward: positively. One thought at a time, stroke yourself with the energy you need to handle the situation and once you've done what you can. Put it to rest and progress.
